subtitle.im

subtitle.im helps YouTube viewers manage existing captions. Its Chrome extension detects subtitles already burned into the video using local OCR and helps avoid overlapping hard and soft subtitles. Viewers can restore YouTube captions when needed and control their caption preferences. It is useful for language learners and people who watch captioned videos. The product offers a free plan and optional Pro features. It does not generate, translate or download subtitles, and it does not remove text burned into the video. Local OCR describes the detection process, not a claim that the entire product operates offline.
